Go west.

September 22nd, 2007

This is just a quick note to say that Asif and I are flying to Vancouver, B.C. tomorrow and then driving to Victoria. We’ll be spending four or five days toodling around Vancouver Island and then hopefully staying a day in Vancouver on the backswing before landing back in Toronto on Friday. I wonder if there are any yarn stores in Tofino…

I may take my socks-in-progress on the flight (the lapghan is too large a project to lug around for a trip like this), but then again I may be a complete heretic and just take a few books and my Nintendo DS. Or maybe I’ll be my typical self and start something new! We’ll see…

I try to take all three, reading, DS and knitting, on plane trips with me.. you can never tell what kind of mood the strange land of air travel will engender. Also, there’s always the risk of things taking way longer than expected and you finish the book, run out of yarn or batteries, etc… I always bring back up distractions & a snack! Have a great trip.

It would be terrible to be stuck in an airport without needles and yarn if the urge to knit struck you. Better safe than sorry. Start a fun new project to go with your fun trip!

Oh, that sounds like a fun trip. B.C. is so beautiful. I know, because my husband and I and our 3 children lived in Nanaimo for 12 years. I haven’t flown for a couple of years, but I just assumed that knitting needles aren’t allowed on planes anymore. Or maybe it depends on what airline you use? I may have a trip coming up in the next couple of months, on WestJet, and it seems such a waste of 4 1/2 hours if no knitting is allowed. One could make so much progress on a sock in that time, or make a whole pair of booties!
