Happy turkey.

October 8th, 2007

Just a quick note to say Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.

No pilgrims, no muskets, no smallpox blankets for native people–just thanks to the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the deity of your choice for providing a bountiful harvest. We do, however, eat plenty of turkey, along with stuffing, potatoes, brussel sprouts and/or turnip, cranberry sauce, gravy and sometimes pumpkin pie.

I am thankful, of course, for all of you and your ongoing readership and support. I’m also thankful to Lamb’s Pride, Noro, Fleece Artist and Handmaiden, and the countless other yarn manufacturers who have kept me occupied over the years. And, finally, I’m thankful that I finally finished the videogame Bioshock, so I can now get a tiny fraction of my life back.

In keeping with the season, here’s a little bit of Canada for all of you, courtesy of the amazing Amanda Marshall. Enjoy.

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you had a really awesome one.

I love Thanksgiving and until this year had no idea that it is celebrated at a different time in Canada. Is it weird that I wish I could be in Canada for Canadian Thanksgiving then come back to the U.S. for U.S. Thanksgiving, I love it that much? :)

My in-laws often have brussel sprouts and/or turnips/parsnips for our U.S. Thanksgiving dinner. I wonder if there’s something they’ve been hiding…

    Enjoy!

David, that video just made me bawl. I have suffered from depression and anxiety on and off since I was a teenager, many of those years not knowing what was going on and just feeling terrible. When nothing else mattered in my life, I alway had my knitting - something safe, even if I only accomplised a few stitches. Thanks for that wonderful piece on Knitty and I will definitely be visiting Pierre’s blog.

    P.S. I believe in you.

Heather, thank you so much. I’m glad to know that the Knitty column and the postings on here have helped remind people like us that we’re not alone.

PS: I’m told that if enough people believe in me, someday I’ll become a *real* boy! :)

Thanks, that was a terrific video, and a fine song too.

I’ll add Amanda Marshall to Stephanie Mainville in my list of favourite Canadian chanteuses.
