Sims for the Wii - named MySims - first preview

The first news about the new Sims game, for the Nintendo Wii, has materialized and it looks surprisingly good.

The Sims have been one of the biggest gaming franchises of the last few years and this new version looks like it has changed in a fair few ways. I’m surprised at the changes that have been made since EA, the games publisher/ developer, are notoriously well known for sticking to tried and tested formulae (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it).

The new game features visuals that are much more Nintendo than EA and, whilst this is appropriate for the audience, is a big departure for EA. For me the change is a big bonus. The change actually makes the game look very similar to Animal Crossing which is a similar style of game made by one of Nintendo’s own internal teams.

There is actually an official site for the Japanese version of the game which you can see here and apparently there will be a similar game for the DS (which no doubt my girlfriend will end up playing to death).
