Echoes is a gorgeous new shoot ‘em up from the clever people over at Binary Zoo. It’s their latest game release and also the most polished.

The game takes inspiration from a variety of sources, most notably Asteroids, and Geometry Wars.

echoes 5There are some very nice little features in the game. Something that has been mentioned by many gaming blogs is the health circle (I just made up the name) around the player. This is a circle that surrounds the player, which changes size depending upon the amount of health the player has remaining. I think it’s a great touch and personally would have removed the health part of the hud to as the circle makes it entirely unnecessary - and I am not keen on huds to start with.

echoes 6Also there is a nice little rewards system where you get rewards for completing certain challenges. These rewards are not easy to get though so don’t expect to unlock them too quickly. I think having rewards or objectives in games like this makes a nice change to simply having points to beat so this is a good addition. It would have been nice if there were some easier objectives to start people off though.

Very cool, must check out. I’ve been disappointed with Kenta Cho’s output lately, it’s time someone stepped up to plate with indie shmups.
