New Year Resolutions
Personal January 1st, 2007New Year Resolutions, I have never bothered with them in the past - but today I’m changing that. Instead of resolutions, here’s a group of 5 goals I would like to fulfill in 2007.

Learn, and have fun in the process
I want to start learning because I enjoy it, and have fun in the process. No matter if it’s school work, real life work or photography, I want to have fun while filling my brain with knowledge and preparing myself for the future.
Snap more frames
Taking a quick look at my Aperture library, I’ve taken just under 3,500 images this year. The last 2 months have averaged 1,000 images each. My goal for 2007 is too get out more with my DSLR and take 15,000 images over the course of the year.
Buy a new workstation
2006 has been pretty big for me, I’ve taken up photography as a hobby and now it is one of my major passions. My current Mac, the iMac is rather sluggish when editing images in Aperture. It’s screen is too small, doesn’t hold enough RAM, and I’m quickly outgrowing the hard-drive. My goal is to have a new pro workstation before the year ends.
Be more productive
I feel as a whole I am very productive, but I feel I still waste a lot of time browsing the web when it could be used for many other things, such as writing.
Live for the minute
I am going to stop looking ahead at the things I could have in the future, and enjoy what I have today. I am going to start living for the day, living for the hour, and living for the minute. I want to enjoy every second of this year, and make the most of my time.
What are your New Year Resolutions?
January 1st, 2007 at 12:28 am
One of mine is to be more productive and make my workflow like ‘Getting Things Done’. Getting fitter and running with my NIke+ kit is another one
January 1st, 2007 at 12:35 am
Haven’t got any yet, though I still have a little over 11 hours to think of some :)
January 1st, 2007 at 1:01 am
My new year’s resolution is to learn how to type fluently using the Dvorak keyboard layout!
January 1st, 2007 at 2:46 am
In germany we have still 8 hours to think about new years resolutions :)
January 1st, 2007 at 3:13 am
I have 6 so far, most are short term goals (resolutions) that way they are easier to handle and keep track of.
1. Take one photo everyday for the entire 2007 year
2. Blog more consistenly
3. Stick to a budget
You can find the rest of mine at my 43 Things page.
January 1st, 2007 at 3:18 am
Mine are:
1. buy a mac (finally!)
2. find a job legal for early teens
3. do very well in high school, which i start next year
and finally, like yourself glenn,
4. live for the moment, because life is short.
January 1st, 2007 at 4:00 am
Indraneel, great minds think a like! Wasn’t it on an earlier post that you and I were the same? Anyway, just thought I would point that out.
1. Purchase a Mac Workstation.
2. Get a job.
3. Purchase a DSLR Camera.
4. Get 4.0 in High School.
5. Run everyday (w/ nike+ipod)
Those are my new year’s resolutions/goals, I hope I can come through with them all.
January 1st, 2007 at 4:35 am
Ok, here we go(in no special order):
1.Launch my blog
2.Buy a Canon 350D
3.Lose weight
Simple, but effective.
January 1st, 2007 at 6:18 am
It seems purchasing a new setup and DSLR are pretty popular, if you have any questions about either dont hesitate to contact me.
January 1st, 2007 at 6:23 am
In no particular order,
1. Decide between black and white and buy a workstation around that (thanks for the vote, Glenn!).
2. Start going to the gym, with a Nike + iPod.
3. Stop spending so much on things I don’t really need (does not include number 1).
4. Work on my concentration skills and stop procrastinating.
Anyway, that’s about all for now! I’ll be happy if any two of those work out for me!
Happy New Year’s Eve to everyone! I hope you enjoy whatever you have planned!
January 1st, 2007 at 8:03 am
Looks like you were inspired by my post, Glenn! I’m glad.
My New Year’s resolutions: Two Thousand and Seven
January 1st, 2007 at 8:05 am
Actually mine was posted first, the time differences work out funny because when I publish on say the 20th of a month, it’s really the 19th for you guys ;-)
January 1st, 2007 at 8:08 am
Yeah, yeah. Yours says January 1st, my time. Mine went live last year. :-P
January 1st, 2007 at 8:10 am
Hah, I need a good solution to track different time zones, I dont like having 10 World Clock widgets open. Any ideas?
January 1st, 2007 at 8:14 am
Happy New Year Glenn! Nice resolutions. My only goals for 07 are to get a little more fit and to fix my night owl sleeping schedule.
I’d set more resolutions but I have this tendency not to follow them so I’m going to try keeping it simple. Best of luck in 2007.
January 1st, 2007 at 8:16 am
Ah. I used to have a couple of those open. Then I dedicated a whole Google homepage tab to clocks set for different time zones.
A google search pulled up some interesting results. Maybe one of these is what we need?
January 1st, 2007 at 8:19 am
Okay, the Digital World Clock widget seems small enough to have a few instances of it open. What do you think, Glenn?
January 1st, 2007 at 8:20 am
There is also Meridian
January 1st, 2007 at 8:30 am
Meridian is a pay app. :-(
I’ve got the DWC widget running, it looks great!
Here’s a screenshot.
January 1st, 2007 at 8:45 am
This year, I want to start coding Obj-C. I started Python this summer but never had time to go into it deeply.
I plan to get a job too. My goal is to pay a new MacBook and a new digital camera.
Oh and I NEED to find time to blog…. and a new host.

Talking about learning code, I’d like to learn more XHTML, hoping that it will come in useful someday
January 2nd, 2007 at 6:05 am
@Josh
XHTML is totally worth it! Just stick to it.
CSS is even better. ;)
January 2nd, 2007 at 6:28 am
Agreed… CSS is awesome, and is even easier to learn too.
Learn CSS and you won’t have to learn that much XHTML to produce great web sites.
January 2nd, 2007 at 7:05 am
Yeah, I used CSSEdit to learn CSS. It made the process more easy.
January 2nd, 2007 at 7:08 am
So here are my resolutions:
1. Get better in photography.
2. Purchase a new camera (my Canon point and shot camera is nice, but it has a lack of features..)
3. Pick up some new webdesign jobs.
4. Read 1984 by George Orwell.
5. Read some new books on design/css/webdevelopment.
6. Get a new desk.
7. Discover new bands. I’ve been discovering so many nice bands in the past monts, I’m going to continue my search.
January 2nd, 2007 at 7:18 am
Talking of cameras, do you think a Canon Rebel XTi is a good choice?
January 2nd, 2007 at 9:22 am
@DeathAxe
No joke! I would die without CSSedit!
January 2nd, 2007 at 10:16 am
DeathAxe and Joe Jacobs:
I agree! CSSEdit is amazing. I just bought CSSEdit 2 and the features in there just expand upon what was a fantastic utility.
Still trying to get my head around the sliding tabs, though!
January 2nd, 2007 at 12:09 pm
Good resolutions. Wow 15,000, thats a lot of pictures. Look forward to seeing more of your work.
January 2nd, 2007 at 5:03 pm
You guys need to calm down before the developer of CSSEdit starts throwing money at you.
I disagree with you all. CSSEdit is the wrong way to go. It’s a cushioned environment. If you really want to write good CSS code, pop open TextEdit in plain text mode and go crazy. If you got TextMate with the MacHeist bundle, open that, increase the text size and code away. CSSEdit, no thank you.
January 2nd, 2007 at 10:30 pm
hmm I use Smultron at the moment. I was using Textmate before, in my oppinion the best editor for macs, but my 30 day trial has expired and currently I have no money to spend.
January 3rd, 2007 at 12:11 am
I htink I’ve already broken one of my new years resolutions…Damn
January 3rd, 2007 at 3:39 am
Which of your resolutions did you break, Josh?
And Yannic, didn’t you buy the MacHeist bundle?
I agree about TextMate, it works so beautifully with CSS! I was using it today. When the CSS bundle is active, it does half the formatting for you! I’m very impressed. TextMate is a must for anyone writing any CSS code on the Mac (NOT CSSEdit). Heck, I’d even buy it separately if I hadn’t got it through MacHeist!
January 3rd, 2007 at 4:17 am
I broke the one which said I have to go running with my Nike+iPod kit every Monday and two other days a week. My excuse was I hadn’t got any proper running trainers to use, but I purchased some Nike Air Moire trainers today and I love them.
January 3rd, 2007 at 6:05 am
Ah damn… it’s not like all hope is lost, though. You can still do your best to go running, with or without your Nike+iPod kit. And now that you’ve got your shoes, you’ve got some motivation. :-)
January 3rd, 2007 at 12:37 pm
Hmm. I should probably stop taking pleasure in the suffering of others. Yeah, that’s a good one. But I may have already broken that. Damn.
January 4th, 2007 at 6:32 am
@ Smaran: No I didn’t purchase the macheist bundle. I was saving for my MacBook when the released it, so I had no money left :(
January 4th, 2007 at 6:36 am
Personally, I’m not comfortable with TextMate. Sure it has some unique features (bundles are great) but I still prefer SubEthaEdit.
January 19th, 2008 at 11:47 am
