What Seiyuu?

I saw on Anime News Network an article about Japan’s inaugural Seiyuu Awards.

In addition to award categories for acting roles, the awards also include a “Special Achievement” category and a “Synergy” award, which is awarded to the movie or series that voters feel make a strong use of voice talent.

Wow, now that is a great idea, since sometimes an ensemble cast really defines a series, and several series have a cast that really works well together!

Synergy Award: Pokémon

Errrr, that’s not what I meant…

Anyways, in terms of winners that actually made sense, I think there were some really interesting picks. I like that both Yui Kano and Aya Hirano were recognized as top lival rookies. Yui Kano’s work as Momoko is really unique, and of course the amazing concert in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya made Aya Hirano a natural choice (although I was surprised the series didn’t get the Best Musical Performance award).

I stopped watching Sumomo^2 because Momoko was extremely annoying. There’s a limit for annoyance =P

I also think that SuzuHaru should have won the Best Musical Performance Award.

Funny, I was just thinking the world needs another award show like I need a hole in my head.
