As Yuri struggles to gain control over the vindictive women suddenly crowding Kail’s seraglio, she has another problem to contend with. There’s a murderer on the loose! Someone is killing off the princesses vying for Kail’s hand, and they’re trying to frame Yuri for the murders! Yuri and Kail suspect Nakia and her black magic, but can they prove it as all evidence points to Yuri?
This volume felt like a retread of previous installments of Red River. I still enjoy this series, but I wonder how many times Yuri can be framed for murder? And how her faithful servants can be so careless! Yuri has never obeyed an command from Kail, and when he orders her to stay in her chambers, I don’t know why Hadi and her sisters thought she would actually listen! No, no, no! The silly hand-maids leave Yuri, alone, and go off to the kitchens to prepare her meal. This gives Yuri the perfect opportunity to sneak off and do some sleuthing on her own, and I’m pretty sure you don’t have to read the book to figure out what happens next. At least everything was wrapped up quickly, and she was only suspected of being a murderess part of the book.
I was glad that she finally found a backbone, and went and told off the nasty princesses that were harassing her. After finding scorpions in her bed, she’s furious! What if Kail had been stung? Like an angry lioness off to protect her mate, she gives the nasty Princess Aksham a piece of her mind. Horrid girl. I hardly felt a ripple of dismay when she was one of the victims of the rampaging killer.
At the end of the book, Yuri is taken captive by another knife-wielding maniac. This makes me wonder how many times one girl can be kidnapped. I’m sure that when Ramses’ shows up for another appearance, he’ll try to abscond with her as well. Yuri leads such an exciting life, it’s no wonder she chose not to return to Japan! I guess if I had hunky Kail there to rescue me all the time, even I wouldn’t mind the occasional abduction or two.

Ah! That’s another title that I wish some enterprising company would pick up over here. CMX, are you listening??

I love Ouke no Monshou. It’s the best story ever! I’m hooked on it for over 6 years. I read Red River too but I dont think the story is as intriging as Ouke no Monshou because the characters lacks a little something. A good story is all about characters…I totally worship Memphis and Izumiru. I wish they would publish it in english.

I wish somebody would pick it up, too. Unfortunately, the length of the series makes it unlikely that we’ll be enjoying it in English any time soon.
