You are so like an iceberg!

Iceberg.jpg Being likened to an iceberg is not a comparison that first comes to mind for many of us. But I think that we are all much more like them than at first we may perceive.

If I compared you to an iceberg it's likely that you could take offence, thinking that I mean you are unfriendly or cool. And indeed why not? There are many other things in life that we may prefer to be likened to, such as a demi-God, superman or superwoman, a living computer, a romantic Casanova, a cuddly bear or a smooth and luscious chocolate. There are many things in this world that being likened to can be seen as a positive compliment.

But when I say that you are very much like an iceberg I truly mean it in a manner that conveys a wonderful aspect about you. As my good friend and brilliant hypnotherapist Ronald Harris reminded me, when the Titanic hit the iceberg it didn't hit the pretty bit on the top with all the fluffy snow, it hit the vast rock of ice lying hidden below the surface of the ocean. And while you have the equivalent of a white fluffy bit on top, the wonderful personality and loving and attractive person that we can see in you, you also have huge hidden depths and reserves of abilities and talents lying as yet undiscovered.

What we see of ourselves and others is only a fraction of the whole person. We all have an enormous range of abilities, qualities and talents underneath our surface, and with that, a latent, inherent ability to bring bring more from ourselves. We all have untapped resources. Sadly we may never know all that we are truly capable of in our lifetime. But there is every opportunity to discover a little bit more.

So, whatever you are doing, in work, hobbies, social situations, family relationships and anything else you care to mention, it is a very high likelihood that you have vast reserves of talent, aptitude and ability waiting to be discovered, not only in your current situations but in other ones too. There will be a whole range of activities and skills that you can develop and probably with more ease than you may expect, It's true for every one of us. And anyone who says that they don't think this is the case of themselves, I would suggest that you ask a good friend what are your best characteristics and qualities and it may be surprising when you are confronted by a list of a hundred, large and small that you may never have considered.

We all have huge potential to achieve success, enjoyment, love and happiness in more ways than we will ever know. So if you feel that you would like a little bit more out of life, or if you feel that you would like to put a bit more into life, to have a change, to make a change, to widen your experience, then I suggest that you say "I Can!" and just go ahead and do it. You may well be pleasantly surprised when you see what you are truly capable of, beyond your usual sense of personal abilities. "I Can." has a certain ring about it that can bring the best from yourself. What you think is what you get. Saying " I can't." will bring you just that.

So as I pick up my violin again this evening, as a novice player with only two years experience, I shall say "I Can." and truly believe that the sound that can come from my instrument can sound as though Yehudi Menuhin is playing it, and maybe I can achieve a little more.....even excel beyond my expectations.

If you have an idea..........go for it. It's the only way to discover that you can actually do it. You don't know you cannot do it until you give it a go, and do so with positive belief that you can. We are all like icebergs with far more hidden inside awaiting to be discovered. Let's be an explorer. Let's discover a bit more about what we can do with our life.
