You have a really nice smile

smile3.jpgHas someone told you something about yourself recently that put a smile on your face and lifted your spirits? I mean, can you recall a situation where someone told you that you had nice eyes, or you had a wonderful sense of humour, lovely legs, that you are caring, kind or compassionate, that you have great taste in music, clothes or that you are very talented or creative at something? Do you recall being acclaimed for a successful endeavour, a great achievement, for being a great cook, for being a good lover, a reliable rock of a good friend, or a sensational kisser? If you're having difficulty thinking of such an instance, then think again!

How did it feel to be told such a nice thing? A simple thing made me smile this morning as I read a review of my book that said I had a good sense of humour.... (eh what??) and so while making the Alexander Technique accessible, the book was also considered an easy read. I never think of myself as having much humour, but it's nice to hear that others may think so. Thank you!

So again, how did it feel when someone said such a nice thing to you? Naturally, I am referring to an honest comment and nothing other. Were you a little elated, lifted in spirit, did you sit up and smile? Did you go around during the day as though floating on air, were you confident, happy, feeling full of energy? Did you like to recall the moment again and again during the day? Did you share the moment with a friend?

Such nice things may not come to us very often, but when they do they can serve to help us feel really good about ourselves. A little honest compliment can do such wonders to our self esteem. So would you like to receive another?

If we do like to receive such honest and wonderful comments, then don't others too? You bet. So you can rest assured, I am going to try and remember during this day, that where a compliment is due, I shall readily give it and not hold back. I'm even going to look for opportunities to give one, while ensuring that it will not be taken the wrong way. I seek nothing in return.

But what we give out is what we get back. 'Smile and the world smiles with you.' Give and receive. Naturally, just because we may give a compliment to one person we do not expect them to return one to us. We're not referring to deals or exchanges here. It's unconditional giving. But such simple and considerate gestures to others helps make their world go around. It's likely to make them happy and feel good for the whole day. It will make them smile, give them lift in spirits and like themselves. And that honest gesture to another helps us feel good too. It's good to give. Now we're all smiling.

I'm going to remember to do this for today,.....but also tomorrow.....

Have a good day!

:-)
