Reason why dogs roll themselves in poo
I really wander about the concept of dogs having great great noses when seeing our two rolling themselves around in poo. Phil our friend who also our dog trainer gave me a little insight into why dogs decide on this particular perfume. I’d previously been told that dogs were not the ones that did this and only bitches did, hmmm enter Sir Dilbertlot to disprove that notion.
Phil told me that a reason for Dilberts love of the substance comes from the pack idea and when dogs are sent away from the pack. All dogs eventually have this happen as they grow up, there is one dog per pack naturally. When the dog leaves the pack it comes across another one it wants to take over but to appear non-threatening it uses animal poo. This then gives it less of the ‘dog’ smell and more unthreatening.
This actually made a lot of sense to me and in many respects explains the seemingly odd liking for poo dogs have. Now this doesn’t explain the ones that eat it - luckily I seem to not have a dog that does that. One apparently reason for this is undigested food. I guess it only goes to prove dogs have reason behind a fair few things we as humans just go ‘what the’ about. It does not make the fact our two roll in it and the ‘eeep lets get them in the water’ that we go through with them, any less of a ew.
