‘Idol’ hands.

February 28th, 2008

American Idol may not be the perfect show–far from it–but it is one of the best shows on television to knit to, as long as your remote has a ‘Mute’ button.

We’re at the top 20 stage, which means we have weeks and weeks to go before they declare a winner, and then a few weeks more before the really talented Idol contestant releases their album whose sales will dwarf the official winner’s release.

Thankfully they’re kicking four off today, two caterwauling men and two shrieking women. I would blog it but, you know? I’d rather keep working on the Baby Surprise Jacket. However, I already have my favourite picked: of course it’s David Archuleta, who last week sang a fairly astonishing version of Imagine.

(Yes, Imagine. When he started, I turned the volume way down, because really, who needs to hear it? But after about 30 seconds, I turned it all the way back up. I couldn’t believe it.)

Fine fine, see and hear for yourself. By the way, this kid is 17.

Wow… he can sing that one :)
I’m glad to hear that it is not only in Germany/France that the winner has a ‘flop’ career and the # 2 or #3 is still going strong years later :) I always say that if I’d be participating in something like this I wouldn’t be aiming to be #1, but rather #2 cos that would mean I’d have a great and lasting career hehehe.

    Cheers Eva

While he was singing, I mentioned to DH that he’s going to win Idol this year. He’s just such a cutie, too!

While a remote is handy, having it taped is even handier. I must admit that I’ve fast forwarded through a couple of the singers.

I may have to start watching it again after seeing him (I was one of the ones pretty upset by the ousting of Melinda last season)

I know, srsly!! He is such a great singer, and he’s so humble. . . but not obnoxiously and psychological-issues-betrayingly so like Doolittle from last season. :-P I’m not pinning my hopes on America letting Danny Noriega get too far, so I’m trying to put more of my eggs in the David basket. ^_^

I totally agree with you on Imagine–I hate that song; it’s done to DEATH; David actually freshened it up for me!!

At this phase of the competition, I always want to go through and just rope a bunch of people and shove them out the door. Why should girl-who-doesn’t-like-her-foods-to-touch be on the same stage with David and Carly? At least they give us the delightfully cheesy group sings on the results shows. ^_^

You know, I keep forgetting that I have a PVR and that I don’t have to watch things live. I’m a bit slow that way!

I was also upset by the ousting of Melinda (clearly Laura wasn’t–grin!) but there are about five this season that I can stand.

    The others have to go–immediately.

I love that song but usually cringe when anyone sings it…he was amazing! So talented and cute. Thanks for sharing.

Sandra and I were completely blown away by that guy last week. As soon as they’d announced the song choice, I think I groaned. I hope David continues to shine - he seems like a nice kid too!

I completely agree that ‘Idol’ is the best show to knit to. I watched the whole season last year in solidarity with my friend who was writing her dissertation on it (yes, seriously, and it’s really good, too), and not being a reality tv fan, I decided I would be productive with the time. I now have a very nice sweater from season 6!
