I am looking…
March 10th, 2008
…for my little black camera cable, the one that hooks it up to the computer. Does one of you have it? I think you do. When I find it (likely tonight), I will post a photo of the Baby-Surprise-Jacket in progress–it’s already looking very strange–as well as a pic of the special treats that Asif brought back from Sydney, and that are rapidly disappearing.
Yes, we’re all waiting for the new Knitty to come out. No, I have no idea–Amy had to travel this weekend, which probably put the publishing process in suspended animation for a little while. She’ll git’er done, I promise.
I did my taxes. I’m getting a nice big four-digit refund. I just felt I had to say that.
Because I just don’t have enough to do, I joined my first and (I hope) only MMORPG–no, no World of Warcraft. Puzzle Pirates. Yes, pirates and puzzles–how can you go wrong? It’s quite charming and funny, nobody dies, and the puzzles are genuinely challenging. I am a pirate in training named Peg Boy Pete (the definition of the pirate term ‘Peg Boy’ is XXX-rated, and rather disturbing, so I won’t be linking to it here), and I have a little shack on an island and I spend my time training with the Navy and then using my skills to go pillaging with whatever crew will have me. I say “Arrr!” a lot. This game was made for me.
Oh, and in other news–more snow. “Arrr!” indeed.
Finally, the exceedingly clever people at Improv Everywhere–the group responsible for ‘the frozen people in Grand Central Station‘, ‘the shirtless men shopping at Abercrombie & Fitch‘, ‘meet a black person‘ and ‘slow motion at Home Depot‘, among so many others–bring us their latest performance spectacle:

Ohmigosh! I played Y!PP for years! I don’t anymore, but I loved it muchly, and still daydream about playing again. It’s a blast!
I think there’s a Ravelry group, too.

Why am I not surprised? There seems to be a Ravelry group for everything!
I’ll go check now…

I have been thinking of starting this but worried of the addiction factor. My plate is pretty full at this point. But I do love me a puzzle.

The new Knitty is here! I read your article, and it says ‘ if you’re lucky enough to find a potlight’ at the movie theater….
Freudian slip? Hopefully it can be corrected?

Yes, Knitty is up. AND I really liked your article.
Hardcore.

I, too, dropped by to say that your Knitty column made me laugh. Enjoy your time off!
10. david_demchuk | March 11th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Oh my God, look at all of you!
I’m very happy you dropped by, and I’m glad to know you found the column entertaining (though I think Amy is tormenting us by referring to this issue as “Spring”).
One of you had a question-ish…ah, it was Jinny. Yes, Jinny, I did mean to write ‘potlight’–they’re those lights that are set into the ceiling, aren’t they? We have those in a number of our movie theatres and they create little pools of light (so that you can read or knit or see whose hand is on your leg) surrounded by inky darkness. Generally no one runs for those seats first, so I usually get to sit in one–and then my evil work begins!

Hi David,
I just finished reading your article in Knitty too. I’m glad you continue your hardcore, public knitting but I’m shocked that people can be so incredibly rude to you while you’re knitting. You’re a good sport and a good knitting ambassador. A big HUG to you!

I read your article on Knitty. It was great, and it is sad. At least the security guard had the ‘right’ reaction.
As far as the potlight, I don’t know if that is the right name, but I certainly knew what you were talking about when I read the term. But, then again, I knit in the movie theater prior to the trailers starting, as well.
Good luck with your next adventures.

I just had to write to you to say I had a great giggle reading your knitty article. The story in the diner was hilarious. Is it most men that think that way. I taught my son to knit when he was about 8 years old and he made a little scarf and that was about it. Perhaps one day he might get back to knitting, and then I will have company to knit with. I love knitting baby items too so I will have to take a look at all the lovely baby items you have made too. Have a fantastic day, and thanks for making my day with that story too.

Read your Knitty article. Loved it !

Hi David! Just finished reading your Knitty article (but of course!) and loved it! Thank you for the laugh. And also for the very pertinent point about it being difficult to knit baby clothes in public even for women (I hate the question, usually asked with arch overtones, “Do you have some Good News to share?” Grr.)
Hardcore.

I think the only appropriate answer to that question is “Why? Are you saying I’m fat? Are you saying I look pregnant? Well? Are you?”

I just read your article, and I LOVED, LOVED LOVED it! I knit at the movies too, and have only dropped my dpn’s one time. Metal, very noisy, rolled waaaayyy down to the front, won’t happen again. Most people ask my what I’m crocheting. sigh. I’ve even taken to knitting during long financial meetings at work, where my husband is giving the lecture. I DARE someone to say something!! Happy knitting!

Hi david,

I just dropped here to say how much I loved your hardcore article in the spring Knitty. It is a pity for us that you are taking a break, but I wish you a very good break indeed!
xo from Switzerland
19. Swapna | March 13th, 2008 at 10:27 am
LOL! Well you see, that might just be a leetle bit difficult, because in the world I live in, it’s GOOD to be pregnant! (not fat, perhaps, but pregnant, yes). So the most likely answer to that would be, “It’s high time!” (We’ve been married over 8 years).
Thanks for the suggestion, though, and the re-laugh.
20. Swapna | March 13th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Also forgot to say…I’d be afraid the answer might be “Yes, you’re fat!”

I love your articles on Knitty, and I’ll miss them during your break. Knit on Hardcore!!
