My Life’s Meaning

Date: March 21, 2008

Today, Quofda, a daily question site brought to you by 9rules, asks, What is the meaning of your life? It’s a good, solid question, one of which we should all ask ourselves from time to time, I think. For now, here’s my answer.

The meaning of my life is, simply put, to leave the world a little better than when I came into it. Cliche, I know, but I think it is the most reasonable way to view one’s purpose. Because I cannot predict the future, I can only guess at how large or small an impact I will have on people, social matters or any number of other things. Only time will tell what will actually occur, and so it is better not to want for hugely specific things, but just to hope that I do some of the things I want to and that they happen to make something better for someone.

On a personal scale, I suppose I want what most people do: a good life, surrounded by those I love and those who love me. On a larger scale, I want to promote reason in all aspects of life and emotion through all things creative. I believe it is important to nurture both in life. I want my life to be remembered as one that was carried out with obvious sensibility, but spiced up with a creative outlook.

The meaning of my life is to make people think things through better before they follow the crowd, get into things they can’t easily get out of or do something that is obviously not true to who they are. My meaning also lies in providing people with a little inspiration here and there, a little food for thought and hope.
