Although I originally didn’t intend it to, the MacBook Pro now has become my primary computer. Which naturally leads me to the next logical question: Do I even need to keep the Mac Pro? The answer is no.
I don’t need the Mac Pro. The loss in horsepower is negligible for what I do, and the gain in simplicity cannot be expressed with words. I’m selling the tower and going back to being a one-computer consumer, and connoisseur of fine laptops.
Shawn Blanc, one of my favorite web writers is making the same switch I did last year. The switch from Apple’s powerful desktop machine the Mac Pro to a highly capable MacBook Pro.
Last year I sold my Mac Pro and 30″ Apple Cinema Display, making the switch to a completely portable setup. Months down the track, no regrets. I wish Shawn the best of luck with his move to the portable powerhouse.

How are the heating issues when running multiple graphic design programs at once(i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, etc).

The MacBook Pro is a powerful machine, and definitely has more than enough power for the average consumer. The Mac Pro ’s 8-core processors are far from a necessity for most of us - the only people who really need it are the audio and movie professionals and graphic designers.
I hope to purchase a MacBook Pro some time this year, coming from a Core Duo MacBook.

I did the exact opposite and I’m finding myself with a MacBook Pro collecting a lot of dust. I’m not selling it because I still use it between my printshop and home, but I do all of my actual work on the Pro. Essentially, my MBP has become a really expensive clock/thumb drive.

Laptops are the way of the future. With people traveling so much and how powerful they are becoming, there is no reason not to use them as a main machine. I look forward to getting a MacBook Pro sometime in my future!

I just bought a MBP last thursday and trust me when I say, its amazing and I am so happy to own it. Its just perfect :) I love it to death.

I will be getting a Mac Pro and later when I will need to go to clients and show them work I will buy a refurbished 13″ MacBook.
Having a laptop in college was great but when I moved out of the dorms I never work outside of my place with it. Having built a PC, I like that I can upgrade the Mac Pro myself.

Having a laptop as your main machine is very convenient but I use a much more powerful desktop just for converting video (which I do probably once or twice a day, on average). Until I’m able to rip a 2 hour movie from a DVD in less than 1.5 hours I’ll stick with the two computer set up.

It’s awesome that a laptop can be a main machine now, only a couple of years ago and a laptop could never have matched a desktop.
Because of you guys, when I head to uni I want a macbook pro!
Hopefully quad-core versions are released before then…
