Rainbow Trout Picture From WikipediaFishing in some Nova Scotia rivers is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna catch. The Chronicle Herald in, Nova Scotia, reports that,

“The fish, which are not native to our waters, are suddenly being caught by anglers everywhere from the Mersey River in Liverpool to the Sackville River in Halifax Regional Municipality, and it’s all because of post-tropical storm Noel.

Wind and storm surges ripped apart Ocean Trout Farms’ aquaculture cages off Coffin Island in Queens County last fall, releasing about 500,000 farmed fish into the ocean.” Entire Article Here

In the short term, anglers are delighted to be catching this beautiful fish. In the long term, the situation is being monitored by wildlife officials and fishing groups as to how this accidental addition will impact the salmon fisheries in those rivers. Be sure to read the article!

*On a personal note to Nova Scotia residents - I would be happy to take any extra rainbow trout you don’t want. I have a pond in my backyard that would love to harbour them!
