The fish in the Great Lakes are now being tagged mechanically for tracking and management purposes. The whole process is very, well, James Bond-ish. Over this past weekend, 500,000 baby fish were tagged and released into the Great Lakes.
How is this done? The CTV News website reports that the process is called, AutoFish, and it works in the following way,
“With the AutoFish system, the baby fish never leave the water and never touch human hands. They’re introduced into a series of canals and are corralled into an area where almost-microscopic instruments place identifiers on the fish. “They’re in and out,” Quinney said, adding the procedure takes half a second per fish.” Entire Article Here.
The end goal is better fishing opportunities and healthier Great Lakes! Thanks to everyone involved.

Wow, that’s pretty cool. I live on Lake Michigan, and I know how important fishing the Lakes is for tourism. Anything that keeps the fish and the Lakes healthier is o.k. in my book.
