9rules Round: May 7, 2008

For 2008, we will be holding rounds on the following dates:

  • May 7, 2008
  • August 6, 2008
  • November 5, 2008

The round will open at midnight EST on those dates and close 24 hours later.

There was a lot of bashing back when 9rules tried to force members to participate in order to seed the community they later spun off, but that rule has been done away with and the member agreement reflects this. The next round is about two weeks away, so if anyone wants to add to the extremely sparse anime community there, go ahead and submit your site (here are some tips). The retro-change should go up April 30, as 9rules returns to being a pre-screened directory site.

Having been a member since late 2006, I still think there are benefits to being accepted into the 9rules site. This is especially true for bloggers looking to get their name out to a wider audience, and I think the effect will be strengthened once 9rules goes back to its old purpose. It is similar to being listed on the blogroll of a popular blogger in a lot of respects.

Could you enumerate those benefits? I could never really figure out what I got from 9rules vs. what they got from me (a link on each page to boost their ep0n0s/pagerank).

What, no tagline about Ranka’s sentient hair? I swear she either generates a temporary anti-gravity field around her head whenever she’s surprised (hence her hair floating, an why the Vajra want her), or her hair’s attuned to her emotions so much that it’s surprised along with her.

Anyway, thanks for the tip… I’ll setting reminders and submitting my site during the May round. Also, listing down what you’ve gained ever since you got into 9rules would be nice.

For some searches, the 9rules redirect link to a SS!AB post will score higher than the SS!AB post itself on Google. So SS!AB gets some page rank and a few hits from 9rules, and 9 rules gets some page rank and a few hits from SS!AB. Now that participation is not required, I feel this is a fair exchange, considering how easy it is to apply. I would say 9rules does more for SS!AB than SS!AB does for 9rules.

While I do have love for the moving side-tufts, I recently discovered Ranka’s mini-ahoge, and I am convinced that she is pinging the Vajra.

Thanks for the shout out. I know a lot of anime blogs are super close-knit but we’d love to have some great new anime members if people are interested.

One of the benefits of 9rules is that we give you solid and organic traffic/subscribers. The #1 way most people use 9rules is by heading to the site, finding a blog they like, and then subscribing so they never hit it from 9rules again. Here’s an entry from awhile ago showing the subscriber count from one of our business community members after he joined 9rules.

Also, we get less than 1% of our traffic from leaf click-throughs on member sites, so please don’t think we’re swimming in traffic because of our member site links :)

So the day to sign up would be on the 7th from that period?

Mike Rundle: Thanks for stopping by and giving some more info.

TheBigN: It’s not first come first serve, so maybe sending it the morning or afternoon of May 7th would be the best bet.

I’m sorry but I gotta agree with Hung on this one. That site sucked balls. The only time I got visitors commenting from there, they didn’t know shit about anime and their comments would be completely ignorant. I got almost no hits from them and their dumb logo had to be all over my site. Thanks but I think I’ll stick with the google ads. :|

9rules got a bad rap for a while, not sure why exactly — I think all blog networks were getting one, probably some crap about upping their own pagerank based on other people’s content. don’t like it? don’t join.

But I actually had some contact with Mike R. in my day job (designing for another blog network who will go unnamed) a while back and if he’s representative of the network, I’d vote it a pretty upstanding place.

WEll, i actually entered and was accepted into 9rules the previous round (or 2 rounds before). I participated in the threads *cos they are funny* but was told that i must participate in the forums actively to stay on board.

    I didn’t.

Now, I wondered if I should re-submit my site for the anime community. What do you think, Kabitizin? Worth it, or heck it?
