Foot On The Floor
Personal May 3rd, 2008Saturday night and I’m still hard at work, tapping away at the MacBook Pro into the early hours of the morning for the sixth night straight. On the topic of the MacBook Pro, I’m starting to see slight ware and tear on the casing from where my hands rest while typing. Normal?
It’s been an extremely busy week - with the launch of Desktop Vibes and an array of projects stirring close to launch I haven’t had a chance to take my foot off the floor.
Here’s a few things you can expect to see from me in the next month:
1. Brand new personal blog design.
2. Launch of a new web magazine, targeted at teenagers.
3. A new design for Desktop Vibes.
4. Content, and a lot of it spread over the three projects.
I never knew so much planning was involved in launching a project properly, although I’m enjoying every minute of what I’m doing at the moment. Future prospects continue to excite and energize me.

Glenn,
Looks Great, regarding the ware, I’ve had the same on my Mac Book Pro. Where is it located on yours?

You’re doing great Glenn. Keep it up.
Regarding the MBP, I find that it is inevitable that ware and tear happen over time, and even more so if you are using your keyboard all the time. First thing to go was my “open the screen” button. It’s almost all black now after being using countless times. Then the case begins to warp (almost no use trying to fix it as nothing does the trick). And then the areas to the right and the left of the trackpad start to fade and slowly deteriorate. The pressure and the oils on the hand must be slightly corrosive to the colouring of the MBP.
Despite all these flaws though, it’s still the best machine I’ve ever owned. :)

It s great to hear that you have been busy for us and I can’t wait to see all the new stuff. I have had my MBP for about 1 weeks less than you have had yours and mine is used heavily everyday and occasionally see scratches but that is it.

I got my MBP a little over four months ago, and the only sign of wear I’ve had is scratches, from traveling with it. Also, it gets a lot of fingerprints on it, but those easily wipe off. It’s the only machine I use everyday, and definitely the best.
Glad to hear your busy, and Good Luck with all the new projects.

Haven’t had that kind of wear and tear on my MBP yet, but I’ve heard it is common because of the painted material it’s made out of.
Working into the early hours of the morning is pretty normal for me, but how about all-nighters? Plan on doing any of those? Hehe, take it easy dude.

That sounds great Glenn. What will this magazine be about? Also, I love the new website, especially how it is updated everyday. I can’t help you with the Macbook Pro problem, because I use a macbook. Good luck with the new projects, I will be looking forward to seeing your work.

I’ve run into wear on the wristrests of both my MacBook Pros and PowerBook G4s. For heavy users, it seems that it’s possible to wear small pits into the aluminum. They get darker and larger over time. My current MacBook Pro began exhibiting them after four or five months.
I was able to get the top case replaced under AppleCare on both a PowerBook G4 and a first-generation MacBook Pro, but I’m not sure if they’ll typically replace them for this problem or if I just got lucky.

Hehe, my bad, saw the headline on Digg, and was like “Bet Glenn will geek his pants when he hears this!” Now that I think about it, I do remember seeing your mug shot below the article cutline on Digg.
