aGS May 9th
Hi, I guess I didn’t get right your contest rules… you said that we must use information from your tutorials… and seeing all the images in this “Contest Update” there are a few that are very not really related to your tutorials and even further I can say that they are made with information from other designers… (Web Roundups) is that valid?
If yes, than you should change the rules…
All the best…
Ben Griffiths May 9th
Some amazing work coming in, some serious skills!
giackop May 9th
i like them!! sorry that mine is not between them!! got to make something better!!

@aGS - Good point. I’m being less restrictive with what is featured here in this update, as I want to show some more of the great work being submitted to the PSDTUTS Flickr group. The final 3 will need to comply closely with the rules to win though. At least for this contest. We’ll open the rules for future contests. It’s OK to use things they have learned somewhere else, as long as they have also used something from a tutorial here. So no, what they have learned form web roundup tutorials will not make the tutorial eligible, unless they have also used techniques from here.
The winners chosen will need to demonstrate what they have learned from tutorials here on PSDTUTS, their level of conceptualization in the work, and their design refinement.
I don’t want to make a bunch of rules and make things restrictive. We’ll probably have something more open next contest. I’m also learning how to run a contest from this first one. I think it’s best to stick with what was set up, as we are already a couple weeks into this contest.
Good question. Thanks.
And great job to everyone who is participating.
Has.n May 9th
I can’t c my artworks!!!! Lol just kidding!! Good jobs here
Danny May 9th
Wooow these are amazing
Joefrey Mahusay May 9th
They become great, its because of PSDTuts. Great work guys!
Lamin Barrow May 9th
From what i have seen here tonight … am ditching the design am working on because it’s no match to the awesome work these guys have made.
Best of luck to all of you. You must have put a lot of effort into these and the result is absolutely fantastic.
goldenthunder May 9th
way cool submissions guys! looks great!
Elthaco May 9th
Even tho they are all great subscriptions I reckon that only the originals ones should be considered. I know that the tutorials “copy” ones are great, but in my opinion emulating the tutorial is the same of been a space monkey, you just press buttons. GO ORIGINALS
Tyler Bramer May 9th
I’m really excited! Just got news that one of the tutorials I submitted is going to be getting published. This will be my first big step into helping others! Thanks PSDTUTS!
Helmy May 9th
Wow, still not in the league
Aminur Rahman [aka Tom R] May 9th
hahah nice entries
Yana May 9th
Awww, my girl made it in here… the entries keep getting better and better… have some serious competition here!
need to think and work super hard on my next submission now!!!
Honestly guys i was soooooooo excited to find a superb quality tutorial site!!! Now i’m addicted! The best part is that i can actually apply most of the tutorials to my client’s projects! It’s nice to learn and get paid at the same time!!! >:)
Keep up the great work, I still have much to learn
Soelberg May 9th
Number 7 & 8 are my favorites in this collection, I can’t wait to see who the winner will be.
Shane May 9th
Agreed with everybody here - the standard of work is fantastic indeed! I actually like the last entry - I like the subtlety of icon design is in some ways more impressive than some of the more ‘wow’ effects. The techniques employed the design of an icon can be reused more easily.
aGS May 9th
@Sean Hodge
Thanks, now I feel free to play with more ideas… Good luck choosing the winner
Zair Abbas May 9th
awesome work!
very nice
p.kadysz May 9th

Great works !
Web Design Belfast May 9th
Nice!
BlackShade May 9th
Nice collection, great works! number 1 and 8 are my favorites!
Anon May 9th
I fail to see how the old school icon set used a tutorial here.
It’s an amazing piece of vector work, but i think the author is just throwing it out here and claiming he used a tutorial ( which I can see no part of it the work ) for a shot at winning the contest :/ Not really fair game if you ask me.
Paul D May 9th
This stuff is depressing me. I wish I had more time on my hands to create such wonderful pieces of artwork.
If number 3 is made up from scratch then that is truly wonderful and for what it’s worth gets my vote.
Keep up the good work and this truly is a great website
Mbithi May 9th
I am green with envy!!!
Qbrushes May 10th
seeing some great talents there, nice work guys.
Daniel May 10th
Cool

MQC May 10th
Some of these are nice, but no offense, why are so many unoriginal? I thought this was a contest for new tutorial ideas. Most of these are either variations on existing tutorials or combinations of existing tutorials. 1,3,7,8,9
MQC May 10th
Scratch that, I was thinking of another item. There are two contests…lol
Constantin Potorac May 10th
I would like to say that this contest thing is just amazing. There are a lot of cool works being posted.
Constantin Potorac May 10th
I am so looking forward for the next contests

@Anon - “I fail to see how the old school icon set used a tutorial here.”
If we chose a winner that it wasn’t obvious how they used the knowledge they learned from a tutorial here, we would first ask for an explanation from the designer. This will make sure the rules are followed. To be featured here in the post it’s less imperative though. The examples above are to showcase high quality entries coming into the contest. Thanks for bringing this up.
@MQC - I think all the designs here are of high quality, but certainly some are more original than others. Some take what they learn and apply it in a more unique way, though I think all the designs listed have unique elements.
A design like, “A Midsummer Night’s Drive,” is leading the contest in my opinion. It’s the beach scene one, which is number 3 from the top. It clearly uses methods from one of the tutorials here. Lot’s of detailed Photoshop work. Excellent composition. And an original thematic interpretation.
It’s great to see such quality work coming into the contest. Thanks everybody. Let me know if any other questions come in.
Seraphim Collective May 10th
Oh my, some serious competition going on here. NOW I’m fired up!!
Anon May 10th
@ Sean Hodge
Thanks for replying to my issue. I like to keep things fair in competitions like these, as with such a loose based contest competition , many designers who have spent a considerable amount of time on a piece of work that they have created in the past will simply alter it slightly and submit it as if it was made for the specific contest.
Believe me, I’ve seen it done many times before in Graphic Competitions and it really gives no chance for people who have done it by the book and created something specifically to win a contest.
Anyway, i don’t think I have the time to enter this competition, but from my experience I would just like to keep it fair
p.kadysz May 10th
@Anon, have you watched the making of one of the icons video? http://vimeo.com/953794 I know that the quality isn’t the best, but perhaps you’ll be able to see that it has been done using same techniques as shown in the ‘helmet icon tutorial’ here on psdtuts.com.
what exactly do you mean by “which I can see no part of it the work”? what part of tutorial would you like to see in the work? yellow helmet? i don’t think this particular tutorial was written just to teach you how to make a yellow helmet icon but to teach you some techniques which you can use in designing whatever you want - for example a gameboy or an old tv.
the fact that i used different reference photos, different colors, and made it more complicated - doesn’t mean i didn’t use techniques shown in the tutorial.
Ali May 10th
very nice work
Alex Beltechi May 10th
@Paul D: Thanks for your compliment. As a matter of fact the beach scene is made from scratch and I’d love to explain the process. However, I believe it would be for everyone’s best interest if this would be published right here on PSDTUTS. Who knows? Perhaps someday this might become a nice tutorial…
@Sean Hodge: I am very happy that originality is highly promoted here. It’s amazing what a few excellent tips and a little constructive competition can do! We’ve all seen amazing designs within this competition from a variety of different people. I have personally had much to learn from the tutorials, but the direct application completed my learning cycle. That’s what I consider making the most of PSDTUTS.
Monya May 10th
So proud to be here! Thank you all.
Et que le meilleur gagne!
Christian Mejia May 13th
