Lovely Lupins

A friend asked what this particular flower was and while directing her to the Lupin page on Wikipedia, I caught myself reading its description.

The yellow legume seeds of lupins, commonly called lupin beans, were quite popular with the Romans and they spread the cultivation of them throughout the Roman Empire; hence common names like lupini in Romance languages. Lupin beans are commonly sold in a salty solution in jars (like olives and pickles) and can be eaten with or without the skin. Lupins are also cultivated as forage and grain legumes. - c/o Wikipedia

Who knew? I love the Internet for random things like these.

I LOVE Lupins. They are my favourite of all time. I know someone who grew Lupins–a garden full of them. Looked like a field of these wonderful flowers. People would stop and take pictures and walk in the garden uninvited (which ultimately led to her moving the Lupin garden to a less visible spot sadness). Gorgeous, gorgeous strange things.

@ Courtney: That is a wonderful lupin story (10 more brownie points for the Internet, you get to meet cool people with cool stories - you have cool stories to tell (!) who would’ve seen this coming from a writer? oh!).

I was so giddy when we spotted this one. I told D “You’ve got to pull over on our way back, when the sun starts setting down” And he did because, you know, he loves me. Luckily the lupins looked like they were on private land but very close to the road therefore I didn’t feel uncomfortable taking pictures of them. D also spotted these tiny little insects on what appears to be lunch time.

Speaking of flowers, I have a very weak spot for bleeding hearts.

I realize this post is mostly about the flowers, but I must say, the photo of the footprint is magnificient. Great frame, great colors!

Dude, any guy who pulls over so a lovely photographer can photograph wins. :)

@ Mom: Merci! Ce sont mes préférées depuis longtemps en terme de photo de nature. Merci d’être une fan inconditionnelle de tous mes projets. Je t’aime xo

@ Long: Thank you for your comment! I had just finished snapping away at the lupins when I walked back to the car and noticed this subdued heavenly patch of light on the sand.

@ Courtney: I know, right? (Even though I must admit, he’s won me over a long, long time ago.) I must find someone with a magnolia tree. I would really like to take photos of those delicate flowers.
