Remember folks, kids are stupid…

Education

That is if you ask Australian educators, who are being urged to issue a disclaimer and warning following fairytale stories in their classrooms.

A warning following Little Red Riding Hood would warn kids on the dangers of talking to strangers, Goldilocks would be a lesson not to walk around unsupervised and Hansel and Gretel would be a warning not to enter strange houses.

Apparently stories for children that have always been moral lessons are too vague for our dumb little offspring to pick up so educators have to waste lesson plans on further discussion on strangers and parental supervision. Keep in mind these are children as young as three.

Now I’m no expert but in my college psychology courses children as old as 7 still lack the cognitive ability to fully rationalize potential dangers and lack a sizable attention span… so tell me how are you supposed to get a message to a 3 year old who isn’t even listening to the main story?

Stanger danger and parental supervision are important lessons for young children but I very seriously doubt tacking them onto childrens books is going to have a significant effect on statistics.

Could you link to an article about this? I have not heard anything about this here in Australia (Is it state or local legislature?), and I was unable to find a news article concerning it.
