Nancy Pelosi to support anti-free speech “fairness doctrine”
Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi has made it very clear that a bill by Rep. Mike Pence (R) that if passed into law would eliminate any shot at reviving the fairness doctrine, would never see the light of day. The fairness doctrine died under the Reagan administration, and if revived it would put the burden on broadcasters to provide “fair” and balanced coverage for all messages on the air. So a station that carries Limbaugh, would have to give equal air time to a talk show presenting Liberal ideas.
Pelosi and other Democrats dislike the “unfair” market advantage that broadcasters like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. Apparently speaking your mind, and gathering a large following for doing so, isn’t “fair” to the Liberal Democrat message.
Apparently the American public is too stupid to do our own research, we need all messages regulated by the federal government for “fairness” before being allowed to hear the message. Rush Limbaugh may REALLY put a kink in Democrats goals, but he is not mandatory listening for anyone. Regulating his message only broadcasts to the world that you’re afraid of him.
Air America was an EXCELLENT observation of how the Liberal message may seem glorious and wonderful, it’s just a very hard sell to the normal talk radio demographic as your message tends to be very abrasive. Forcing equal air time won’t solve your problem it will just make it worse.

The Fairness Doctrine might have made sense when there were only 3 TV networks and a handful of radio stations and newspapers in a local market. I remember doing college radio in the 1970s and having to always announce “responsible parties with an opposing viewpoint may request time for a rebuttal”. Ugh.
Now we have a plethora of media available if only one were to make even the slightest effort to find them. Internet sites, podcasts, satellite radio, and 500 cable channels ensure that everybody who wants to make a point has the means to do so. We don’t need the government regulating “fairness”, the marketplace has ensured that fairness is just a click away.
