VIZ Media is stepping up their presence in Hollywood:
Based in Hollywood, VIZ Prods. will be run by Jason Hoffs, a former production exec at Amblin and DreamWorks, who most recently had his own producing deal at Sony.
VIZ effort is another recent example of publishers, from the New York Times to vidgame companies such Capcom, becoming proactive in exploiting film projects hatched from their content.
“Properties like ‘Naruto,’ ‘Bleach,’ ‘Death Note,’ ‘Vampire Knight’ and ‘Monster’ are just a few properties that show the massive appeal of manga to many different demographics, and we have an almost endless pool of titles to draw from,” Hoffs said.

What do you think? Are we going to start seeing Bleach, Naurto and Death Note live action anime films?

Naruto - I agree with you that it’s going to be tricky. They’re faced with a variety of challenges, including:
- Will fans be alienated?
- Are ‘mainstream’ audiences (i.e. non-anime fans) going to be interested?
- Can they keep the integrity of the original show/manga?
It will be interesting to see what happens.

Yes, Afro Samurai was a good synergy production…but I serious wonder how long it’ll last. Because I’m sure the Japanese will be fairly protective of their skillful drawings. It could potentially go beyond just the animation and into games too….again, tricky that’s all I can say…

xSubarux - It will be interesting to see how Viz handles their properties. Will we see more live action anime? It’s hard to say…
Naruto - I don’t think US animation will change much (Hollywood is too entrenched in CG animation). But it might mean we see more live action anime.
I think anime production companies are looking to Hollywood for support, though. We might end up with more Japanese/US co-productions like Afro Samurai).

It seems like Japanese anime is definitely taking a presence here in the US. I wonder how US cartoon makers will do about this situation….seems fairly tricky in the long hall.

Hmm… I don’t know… Death Note is already a live action movie in Japan, but I’m curious to see how Hollywood does these animes.
