Nice thought - but not yet. UPDATE: Now YOU CAN!
By luck, I was able to visit a Rogers store just after they received 4 of Apple’s cool new phones. I took it fishing last night and took some photos with it’s sweet camera application. Naturally, I thought I would post from the boat (while trolling I should add).
The iPhone’s G3 safari web brower works great when viewing this blog and navigating through it. It is also possible to move through various functions of the the Wordpress admin area. Things like approving comments, viewing posts, and setting some options. The problem came when I tried to post from my iPhone. The blogger can post titles to a post and you can scroll through various sections of the posting page (ie. Publish Status, Categories, Custom Fields).
I could not actually type text in the Post field or upload photos.
It could be that i am still learning the subtle nuances with iPhone’s safari browser (but I doubt it). I saved the blog post (title only) from my iPhone and left the post to finish later on my home computer
All is not lost.
There is an application in development called Wordpress for iPhone. It could be the answer the Outdoor Blogger needs to be able to post seamlessly from their deer stand or fishing boat. Update - the application is now available! Search ‘wordpress’ on your iPhone apps program.
Making the switch to the iPhone from my Blackberry was simple. I was able to ‘upgrade’ to the iPhone without paying a service fee and the NEW data plan is fantastic. I get 6 gigs of data for the iPhone G3 applications like Maps, YouTube, and Safari.
What are my initial thoughts on the iPhone G3?
- The web browsing and YouTube movies are lightning fast
- The screen is bright and clear
- Syncing between my mac and iPhone is simple (music and photos, and emails transferred easily)
- Instant messaging is easy enough, but getting use to typing on the screen takes some time.
- The potential to post from the boat or field - Priceless!
Here are the photos I took with the iPhone’s camera:
When I can post from the boat, I will be quickly looking for some good protection options. It’s hard not to worry about dropping or scratching this phone.

Man, I feel really out of the loop. I don’t have a mobile phone of any kind. I’m missing so many posting opportunities!
