The fifth round of the WSK International Series at Sarno saw Gianluca Beggio’s team, Spirit, lining up fewer drivers than usual. A technical decision taken by the multiple champion, who with the more important events of the season drawing nearer (European KZ2 and the KZ1 World Cup to be held in Varennes (F) on 4/7th September) decided to leave his top two gearbox drivers, Gianluca Cane and Danny Bleek, at home this time.
According to Beggio, this rest will enable the Italian and Dutch drivers to recharge their battery after many races and tests that have kept them very busy over the last weeks. “We’ve done well up till now,” said Beggio, “Also thanks to the last tests, the material we have is very competitive, but we must find the right frame of mind to tackle important events, such as the European Championship and the World Cup, clear thinking, something that has been a bit lacking over the last meetings.”
On this occasion, Spirit had to make do with his latest acquisition, David Detmers in KF3, who after taking eighth in qualifying, was sixth in heat 1 and got a brilliant second place in the next heat. Due to an early heat 4 exit, the Austrian driver lined up on row eleven for prefinal start then, due to a lack of experience, dropped to the back.
Due to technical faults and clutch problems, Raffaele Marciello, KF3, was unlucky this weekend. The Italian is ninth in timed practice and fifth in heat three. Unfortunately, he suffered an accident in heat one and clutch problems in the fourth, so the young driver has to go through repechage, but he’s soon out, once again due to mechanical problems.
