Is it me, or have my fellow bloggers seemed rather busy over the past couple of days? I’m wondering if it’s had anything to do with Labor Day, or perhaps the beginning of the Fall semester (for college students at least.) I’ve definitely got my hands full this week, what with a new copywriting job, the start of an extra-large load of classes at UMD and a double-header show this weekend with one of my bands. I may have to delay the next editorial a bit, but Gothloli Haruhi-sama’s unexpected arrival is news enough to warrant a mini-post for everyone’s entertainment. Gawk with me, fanboys and fangirls! Loyal Haruhiists, prostrate yourselves!
Apparently this 1/7 PVC figurine is extremely popular or was manufactured in extremely limited supply. I ran across this as a pre-order item listing on Hobby Link Japan several weeks before Otakon 2008 and was instantaneously smitten. Although I am rather new to models and figurines, I HAD to have this one; there’s just something about the black and white… So I pre-ordered one and patiently waited for it arrive among the tail end of a barrage of merchandise en route to my home address. But to my great dismay they sold out loooong before they were ever available for normal (non-preorder) purchase. As expected, I received an e-mail from Hobby Link several weeks later stating, essentially, “Sorry dude, but you’re S.O.L. They’ve all been gobbled up by rabid otaku.”
*Ahem* so I looked around on eBay, and sure enough, some slick bastard in Hong Kong had gotten his (or her) hands on a few and was selling them for $10 or $20 extra, a piece. This is a common ‘business’ practice that I can’t decide whether to be infuriated at or grateful for. I mean, I know I’m getting screwed, but it’s *Haruhi* we’re talking here! Long story short, I shelled out the dough and she is MINE now, a whopping two months later. Muahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!! (By the way, anyone into LDs? I’d love to trade info on old LD titles. I would consider doing a post on laserdiscs if people were actually still interested in them…)

There’s an animu club, but I stopped going around last year since they mainly show shows I’m already watching (Hayate) or don’t want to touch with a ten foot pole (Rosario+Vampire, ZnT). Although occasionally they’ll show some older stuff such as Noir or Hokuto no Ken which I certainly appreciate.
If you wanna check them out I’m sure they’ll have a table setup for the first look fair, which is about a week and a half from now.
