Feast your eyes on the Rock Band 2 Ion Drum Kit, not exactly the standard when it comes to "fake" instruments.  From what I've read, this thing goes way beyond that.
 
Along with all of the new drum kits going with RB2, not just the Ions, the pads are now much, much quieter.  The pads themselves are a bouncy mesh substance which will probably make everyone playing the game happy,since now that they'll be able to actually to hear the music over the drummer's banging.
 
That being said, the Ion drum set exclusively features other little gems as well, like a full on metal kickpedal, not a flimsy plastic one like before.  You've probably noticed the cymbals by now too, well, those are also exclusive, but you can buy them and put them on your non-premium one as well and it will also work with the game.  The pads themselves are also adjustable as well.
 
Finally, I know that I say to practice the real thing more often, but on this one you have an excuse.  That's because this thing also works as a full functioning electronic drum kit.  While the songs on the game are made to play on the same notes and beats like you would on the real thing, now you can actually have the real thing, and that's good enough for me.
 
Now, you're probably asking yourself, "how much could this thing possibly cost?" Well, all for the extremely low practically-bargain-bin price of only $300.  Well, it's up to you to see if it's worth it, but this thing could very well in the end make you a decent drummer, all for playing a game.
