Week 3 is a wrap. We've got 3 songs in the can, Wild Thing, Fly Away and Knockin' on Heavens Door.
Here are a few things to start thinking about during rehearsals...
- Volume Levels - everyone should be at or near the same volume before playing. Also, do not have your guitar volume maxed out at 10. You should have it set 5-7 so that you have some additional volume during your solo. Do not forget to turn your volume back down after your solo. Remember - if you can only hear yourself, it is likely that you are too loud. Turn it down.
- Eye Contact - keep eye contact with your instructor and band members. Eye contact is how you can see when one person is wrapping up their solo and when you should solo. If you have your head down, eyes closed and are in your own world jamming with Jimi, you won't know when to come in for your solo. Stay alert and in tune with the band and instructors.
- Play fewer notes during your solo - unless you have a solo worked out with a bunch of notes, it is better to play fewer notes and work those notes with vibrato, bends and slurs. This will often sound more musical than just running up and down the scale as fast as possible.
- Band Names - we had some interesting names last night. Talking it over with your band mates and settle on your band name before the next rehearsal.
Overall, the songs are coming along and we're very happy with the work that everyone is putting in. Look for us to announce the Saturday 3-hour rehearsal schedule in the near future.
