• OutKast - Morris Brown
  OK, this song had to grow on me, primarily because I saw the video first before even hearing the song, and I was like "What in the Hell is this?" But you know what…listening to it now gives me goosebumps because it takes me back to my carefree, high-stepping, breakin'-it-down-on-the-twos-and-fours days of high school marching band.




• Action Figure Party - Green
  It's just a real mellow, chill kinda track. A friend of mine calls this song "Music to Get Fucked Up To". It's seven minutes and two seconds of instrumental downtemp jam.




• Beady Belle - Wounded Pride
  I love songs that tell a story; this one does so in not a really obvious way, but by the time you get halfway through it, you'll see what I'm talking about. It's a sad song, but it's uptempo and lively. Would you expect anything different from her?




• Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - Pursuance
  This track is part of the "A Love Supreme" collection (made famous by John Coltrane). The LJCO does not disappoint in this third movement of the series. Most people are only familar with the first movement, "Acknowledgment", but the other parts ("Psalm", "Pursuance" and "Resolution") are equally as memorable and moving.




• Blackalicious - Release
  For me, the real power of this song comes right at 2:44 — poet divine Saul Williams breaks it down, and honestly, it makes me feel a little bit more thankful for everything when I hear it. Again, a song that tells a story, and there's no better storyteller.




• Bobby Sanabria Big Band - Olokun / Yemaya
  Yes, another instrumental track! Giving homage to the orishas of West Africa, something about this song symbolizes communion, effort and praise. And that Karolina Strassmayer blows a mean sax.




• Girl Talk - Summer Smoke
  I heard this song at a party last week, and it had everyone on the floor. If you like The Avalanches, you'll like Girl Talk.
